Reference services policy
Approved June 2024
Reference services and materials are available to all persons who reside within the jurisdictional boundaries of the Moweaqua Public Library District (MPLD) regardless of the patron’s age, race, sex, and social or economic status.
Staff are available to provide reference services during all hours the library is open.
Staff treats all questions with equal respect.
Reference service is provided in response to all forms of inquiry (including electronic).
Reference questions that cannot be answered with onsite resources are referred to another agency. Such referrals are verified and/or mediated by library staff.
All requests for information receive an answer or status report within one working day.
The needs of library patrons are treated with respect. Names of users and the transactions that occur between users and the reference staff are confidential and not discussed outside a professional context.
The library adopts and adheres to the American Library Association Statement on Professional Ethics. Copies of this policy and the ALA statement are available on request.
