Overdue Material Policy

The following steps will be followed if a patron has library materials TWO weeks past due.

The librarian will telephone the library patron reminding them they have library material that is two weeks past due.

At three weeks past due, the librarian will send a reminder letter to the patron.

The librarian will telephone the library patron reminding them the library material is now four weeks past due.

At five weeks past due, the librarian will send a reminder letter to the patron.

At six weeks past due: if the library patron has made no effort to return the library material, the librarian will inform the library board of the situation at the next board meeting. The board will send a certified letter to the patron. Form A will be sent if the library material has a value of less than $50.00. Form B will be sent if the library material has a value of $50.00 or more.

At seven weeks past due: if the library material has a value of less than $50.00, a representative from the local police department will be asked to go to the patron's residence to request the return of the library material.

If the past due library material has a value of $50.00 or more it will be turned over to the State's Attorney's Office thirty days after receipt of the certfied letter.

Materials not returned and fines not paid will result in the suspension of patron's library privileges.
