Interlibrary Loan Policy

ADOPTED:  March 22, 1999

 

I.   Responsibilities of Requesting / Borrowing Library

  1. 1. Requested items shall be described completely and accurately.

  2. 2. The borrowing library shall honor the lending library's conditions of loan including observation of dates and duration loans, recall notices, and special handling.

  3. 3. The borrowing library shall not lend any materials borrowed from Moweaqua Public Library District to the next requesting patron without the permission from the librarian of the Moweaqua Public Library District. Failure to comply with these terms can result in denial of future requests.

  4. 4. The borrowing library is responsible for returning loans promptly; safety of materials and all costs including fees, repair and or replacement in accordance with this policy.

II.  Local Patron Responsibility

  1. 1. Patrons who participate in interlibrary loan services assume the responsibility for all fines and or fees charged from or to the Moweaqua Public Library District for materials requested on their behalf. This responsibility will include all fines and or fees for lost or damaged materials.

  2. 2. A patron agrees to and will fulfill the terms outlined in this policy and all member library interlibrary loan policies. This will include the rules and regulations of the Illinet Interlibrary Loan Code.

III. Materials Moweaqua Public Library District will consent to loan/borrow

  1. 1. Adult Fiction & Non Fiction

  2. 2. Children's Fiction & Non Fiction

  3. 3. Reference

  4. 4. DVD's & CD's

  5. ​​5. Audio Books

 

IV.  Materials the Moweaqua Public Library District will not consent to loan / borrow

  1. 1. Geneology Material

  2. 2. Micro films

  3. 3. Newspapers

 

V.   Loan Period

  • 1. Books will be loaned / borrowed for a period of four (4) weeks from the date received.

  • 2. Videos & DVD's will be loaned / borrowed for a period of two (2) weeks from the date received.

VI.  Renewals

  • 1. Books borrowed / loaned from the Moweaqua Public Library District may be renewed for two (2) additional weeks under the terms material is not overdue. Overdue books cannot be renewed. Books may only be renewed once for the period stated in this policy.

  • 2. The Moweaqua Public Library District will not issue renewals on videos & DVD's that are loaned / borrowed through the interlibrary loan service.

​​Note:  All renewals must be made by contacting the Moweaqua Public Library District.

 

VII. Fee Statement

  1. In the event material (s) that are requested through interlibrary loan services are also requested to be mailed directly to a patrons home address the following terms apply: A fee of $5.00 per item requested is due payable to Moweaqua Public Library District at the time the request is received. Requests received without the proper fee enclosed will be honored. When returning material (s) by mail it is the responsibility of the patron for all postage and insurance costs that occur.

 

VIII. Overdues and Billings

  1. 1. There will be no fines issued for material (s) loaned / borrowed from the Moweaqua Public Library District through the interlibrary loan service. Borrowing patrons and libraries are expected to respect the terms of this policy. Materials should be returned on or before the due date. Local patrons who abuse these terms may be charged as stated in the Moweaqua Public Library District's Fines and Fees Policy.

  2. 2. When available Moweaqua Public Library will not charge a fee for a maximum of ten (10) photocopies when it is requested through Interlibrary loan services. Additional copies are subject to the fee which is stated in the Moweaqua Public Library District's Fines & Fees Policy. (The Photocopy fee is .25 cents per copy.)

  3. 3. In the event a borrowed item (s) is damaged and or lost the borrowing library will be charged the dollar amount required to repair or replace it.

NOTE:  It will be the responsibility of the borrowing library to seek reimbursement for all charges from their local patron. Failure to pay charges for damaged or lost materials could result in denial of future requests.

  • 4. The Moweaqua Public Library District will not honor any requests from requesting libraries that designate items to be delivered within 24 hours. Such requests are referred to as: Express Requests.

 

Miscellaneous Information

  1. 1. The interlibrary loan service is a library-to-library service.

  2. 2. All fees that are due to the Moweaqua Public Library District will be conducted in the same manner.

  3. 3. Member libraries will be billed for fees as outlines in this policy that patrons have incurred through the use of the interlibrary loan service.
